Kansas City, KS

Kansas City Homes for Sale

Let's start with the name...

Always a little confusing to “out of towners” is the naming here … and the common question of “do you live on the Missouri side or the Kansas side?”. As should be somewhat obvious, State Line Road runs north and south through the metropolitan area of Kansas City (total metro population nearly 2.5 million) and with same comes Missouri on the east side of the road and Kansas on the west side! Further explanation from your Kansas City KS Real Estate Guide is needed to explain that both sides of that state line lay claim to the name “Kansas City”! On the Kansas side the name is often referred to as KCK.

KCK is part of Wyandotte County and is governed by a unified government for both the county and the city of KCK. With a diverse population and a vision to improve housing options, local government, and opportunities for residents, KCK is on the “upswing”! So, even though KCK is technically a suburb o f Kansas City, MO (KCMO) and doesn’t have the same level of growth in industry, entertainment, and population … the tide is turning and KCK is growing both economically and in population!

Housing & Neighborhoods

Your KCK Real Estate Guide knows the area like a local should and is able to point you toward homes and neighborhoods that will meet your lifestyle. KCK is made up of five unofficial “regions”– West, Midtown, Northeast, Downtown, and South. Here are a few ideas of places to start:

  • Strawberry Hill Neighborhood – this is a well-preserved historic neighborhood which sits on the bluffs overlooking both the Kansas (Kaw) and Missouri (Mo) Rivers. A tight-knit community with housing prices varying from the $200K+.
      • Try out Kinship Cafe, a local business with a mission for kindness and equality … and a darn good sandwich!
      • This downtown area is also home to The Avenue of Murals (four blocks of murals!) depicting history and culture in a vibrant and engaging way!
      • Chente’s on the Hill – a pizza pie you will crave on the weekly (and likely even more often)!
  • Western KCK is a focal point of growth and has oodles of shopping, entertainment, and dining options. Some things to be sure to check out:
      • The Legends with all the shopping (outlets, Target, Sam’s …), and a tribute to over 80 of the most well-known Kansas Citians via statues throughout the area.
      • Kansas Speedway – NASCAR and all kinds of events happen here.
      • Children’s Mercy Park – a soccer-specific stadium and home to Sporting KC and KC Current
      • Some subdivision options include Villas of Piper Valley, Glenn Eagles, Canaan Woods, Whispering Pines, and a promise your KCK Real Estate Guide will hunt down exactly what you are looking for in your price range!
  • Midtown KCK has a good amount of residential and a spacious feel. For starters, you have the 1500-acre Wyandotte County Lake and Park in this area – a stocked lake, all kinds of trails, and plenty of “play space”, picnic areas, fresh air!
  • Southern KCK includes the Argentine and Armourdale neighborhoods, amazing local food spots, and the University of Kansas Medical Center. Here are a few “not to miss” items for this area of KCK:
      • Rosedale Memorial Arch – dedicated to the soldiers of World War I, and modeled after the famous Arc de Triomphe in Paris, France. In 1993 a historic marker was dedicated under the arch to honor the soldiers of World War II, Vietnam War, and the Korean War.
      • A must try is Jarocho, authentic Mexican seafood – the ceviche is top notch!

Some Additional Thoughts on Why You Should Move to Kansas City

The Kansas City Real Estate Guide just has to get a few more pointers in:

Sure, there’s a bit of friendly “rivalry” when Kansas City folk gather up – Kansas vs. Missouri – but the truth is, if you live in the metro area, it’s a big bunch of people who love friends and family, ballgames and barbecue, brew pubs and wineries, arts & entertainment, four seasons and festivals, and the ease of navigating the area along with fantastic medical services, shopping, and a strong economic infrastructure!

Your KCK Real Estate Guide only needs your parameters, and then the search can begin for your new address … we love Kansas City and the whole metropolitan area. “Midwest Nice” is a real thing and you get all the ambiance of a great metro as a bonus!
