A little history and some basic statistics about this enjoyable city will have you browsing for open houses in no time!
The Leavenworth Real Estate Guide is proud to present this mid-size city of just under 40,000 residents (considered part of the Kansas City Metropolitan Area). Here are some of the key points:
Fort Leavenworth became known for its role as a key supply base in the settlement of the American West. Civil War history is a major part of this city. With the city located on the Missouri River, many refugee African American Slaves sought freedom here – from the slave state of Missouri. Kansas, and particularly the cities of Leavenworth and Lawrence, were considered radical because of their recognition of freed blacks as citizens. A fair amount of controversy for a new territory and the Midwest at the time!
Location is always going to be the favorite topic for the Real Estate Guide, and here you have a great location! This town is 25 miles northwest of downtown Kansas City, 40 miles northwest of Arrowhead Stadium (go Chiefs!) and Kauffman Stadium (the Boys in Blue, KC Royals), and only 20 miles to the Kansas City Airport. This area is big on sports – college sports, professional sports, playing sports, watching sports … you get the idea.
This town has a charming 28-block historic shopping district. You will find murals on walls, repurposed old historic brick buildings, and antique shops, boutiques, restaurants, and a brewery! Some of your favorite chain stores/restaurants are also here – Walmart, McDonald’s, Starbucks, and Dairy Queen … to name a few. Major retail areas nearest Leavenworth include The Legends and Zona Rosa, each about a 25-minute drive.
The Real Estate Guide is quick to point out the supportive community, friendly people, traditional vibe, and diverse community and offerings of the city. With Fort Leavenworth (the city’s largest employer – employing nearly 6,000 people) there tends to be a fair amount of “turn-over”, but that does not diminish the local admiration for military and patriotism shown.
